About Portland State University

Portland State University, or PSU for short, is a public state urban university located in downtown Portland, which is a city located in the Northwestern United States, in the state of Oregon, with a population of more than 582 000 inhabitants, estimated during the 2009 census, fact which makes it the 29th most populous city in USA, the most populous city in the state and the 3rd most populous city in the Pacific Northwest, after Seattle, Washington, and Vancouver, British Columbia.

PSU was founded in 1946, as the Vanport Extension Center, being established in order to satisfy the demand for higher education in Portland for returning World War II veterans.
